Dulon College has undergone a complete refurbishment, to transform the vocational school into a modern and future-proof educational building. A hub for 2,600 students and 240 employees, the college is split into five fields of study: Trade, Economics & Administration, Hospitality, Tourism, Recreation & Wellness, Security & Sports, Care & Welfare and Entree.
The three-storied wings are separated into facilities for the five domains, connected through the main structure, new corridors and walkways along the atrium and inner garden. Deems’ lighting design opens up the structure of the space, creating bright corridors flooded with daylight.
alphaLED’s products are installed throughout different areas of the building, with different downlights used in various rooms to optimize the use of natural and artificial light. As the lamella ceiling is slatted, alphaLED had to ensure that the lighting was mountable to this ceiling type. alphaLED created a custom twin product for this project, which also ensures the same light quality and high-end aesthetic as all of their ranges. In the central space of the college, compact construction LED downlights are placed at regular distances between the slats of the ceiling, creating a welcoming glow from above.
The closed side walls are accentuated by compact wall wash fixtures, which are mounted in a linear arrangement at an even distance between the ceiling slats. This ensures a uniform lighting effect throughout the space, setting a soft ambience. The counters are emphasized by pendant luminaires, which also provide light on the work surface, adding functional lighting with a decorative depth, contributing to the overall design and aesthetics of the area.
The custom lighting solutions from alphaLED are a key part of this refurbishment, creating the exact lighting effect desired by the client to ensure the space has an abundance of light and feels modern, futuristic, and welcoming.
